A lifelong migraine sufferer, Emilie Davidson Hoyt learned at an early age how natural ingredients can positively affect the body and mind.
Beginning in her early childhood, Emilie suffered from migraine headaches so severe that she would temporarily lose her ability to speak and see. In fact, one high school teacher remarked that because of the attacks, she would never succeed in college or any kind of advanced job.
Doctors were unable to effectively prevent or ease Emilie’s migraines, but it was a lavender soap gift from her father that inspired Emilie to explore natural healing products and to use her personal experience to help others.
In 1999, Emilie, now a Pepperdine University graduate, further defied the prediction of her high school teacher by launching LATHER with a small line of pure olive oil-based soaps. The first LATHER boutique opened in Pasadena, CA. shortly after. Boasting a clean, colorful design, an essential oil Blending Bar, an in-store sampling sink and a friendly approach to customer service, the store quickly became a local favorite. By expanding their product line and challenging expectations of what it meant to be “natural”, LATHER developed a cult following among celebrities, the media and savvy customers searching for cleaner alternatives to traditional, synthetic-based skin care.
The spirit of California - sunny, natural, innovative and optimistic – has always been a driving force for the company and is now on display in LATHER stores in Scottsdale, AZ, Atlanta, GA, Fairfax, VA, and at the LATHER Spa in Honolulu, HI. LATHER’s fresh, unisex products can also be found in likeminded hotels, spas and boutiques around the globe.
