Mineral - sometimes called physical - sunscreens sit on the surface of the skin, and create a barrier that deflects UV rays away from the skin. Chemical (or synthetic) sunscreens sink into the top layer of skin, and absorb UV rays before they can cause damage. There are concerns that chemical sunscreens can irritate sensitive skin, and have a negative environmental impact on the ocean and coral reefs.
Yes, the formula is water resistant up to 80 minutes, so skin will be protected even if sweating or swimming.
Zinc Oxide is naturally white, so it may leave a slight cast on deeper skin tones - but we find it less noticeable than most other mineral sunscreens.
